Local processingWhat is IBAN Validator & Parser?
An IBAN (International Bank Account Number) is a standardized bank account identifier defined by ISO 13616. It consists of a 2-letter country code, 2 check digits, and a Basic Bank Account Number (BBAN) whose format varies by country. The check digits are computed using mod-97 to detect transcription errors.
How It Works
The validator normalizes the input by removing spaces and uppercasing, checks the country code against a table of known IBAN lengths, rearranges the string (country code + check digits moved to end), converts letters to numbers (A=10...Z=35), and computes mod-97. A valid IBAN yields a remainder of 1.
Common Use Cases
- Validating IBANs before SEPA transfers
- Checking customer bank account numbers in forms
- Extracting country and BBAN from IBAN strings
