MAC Address Generator
Generate random MAC addresses with locally administered bits set. Multiple formats supported. Runs entirely in your browser.
Local processingWhat is MAC Address Generator?
A MAC (Media Access Control) address is a 48-bit hardware identifier for network interfaces. Locally administered MACs have the U/L bit set and are safe for virtual interfaces.
How It Works
Generates 6 random bytes, clears the multicast bit (bit 0 of first byte) and sets the locally administered bit (bit 1), then formats in the chosen style.
Common Use Cases
- Virtual machine network interfaces
- Testing network software
- Container MAC assignment
Technical Details
IEEE 802. Formats: colon, hyphen, dot, none. Bits: U/L (locally administered), I/G (multicast).
How to Use
- Set count and format
- Click Generate

FAQ
Are generated MACs valid?
Yes. The multicast bit is cleared and the locally administered bit is set, per IEEE 802 standards.
