What is MAC Address Lookup?

The first 24 bits (OUI) of a MAC address identify the manufacturer. The remaining 24 bits are device-specific. The OUI is assigned by the IEEE Registration Authority.

How It Works

Extracts the OUI (first 3 bytes) from the input MAC, looks it up in a built-in vendor table, and checks the multicast/locally-administered bits to determine address type.

Common Use Cases

  • Identifying device manufacturers on a network
  • Validating MAC address formats
  • Network inventory and auditing

Technical Details

OUI: 24-bit Organizationally Unique Identifier. Built-in database: ~100 common vendors. Bit flags: I/G (multicast), U/L (locally administered).

How to Use

  1. Enter a MAC address
  2. Click Lookup
  3. View vendor and address type
