Local processingWhat is Numeronym Generator?
A numeronym is a word abbreviation where the first and last letters are kept and the middle letters are replaced by their count. For example, 'accessibility' (13 letters) becomes 'a11y' — first letter 'a', 11 middle letters, last letter 'y'.
How It Works
For each word longer than 2 characters, the tool takes the first character, counts the remaining middle characters (length - 2), and appends the last character. Words of 2 or fewer characters are returned unchanged.
Common Use Cases
- Creating compact abbreviations for long words
- Understanding tech jargon (i18n, a11y, k8s)
- Generating hashtag-style short forms
Technical Details
Formula: word[0] + (word.length - 2) + word[word.length - 1]. Only applies to words longer than 2 characters. Preserves non-alphabetic characters and whitespace.
