String Obfuscator
Obfuscate strings using hex, unicode, base64, or HTML entity encoding. Useful for hiding text from casual inspection. Free, private, browser-based.
Local processingWhat is String Obfuscator?
String obfuscation transforms readable text into an encoded form that is harder to casually read, using methods like hex escapes, unicode escapes, Base64, or HTML entities. It is reversible but deters casual inspection.
How It Works
Each character is converted to its encoded representation: hex (\xNN), unicode (\uNNNN), Base64 (entire string), or HTML entity (&#NN;). Decoding reverses the process.
Common Use Cases
- Hiding email addresses from scrapers
- Obfuscating strings in source code
- Preventing casual text inspection
Technical Details
Hex: charCodeAt → \xNN. Unicode: codePointAt → \uNNNN or \u{NNNN}. Base64: btoa/atob. HTML entity: charCodeAt → &#NN;. All processing is client-side.
How to Use
- Enter text to obfuscate
- Select method (hex, unicode, base64, HTML entity)
- Click Obfuscate or Deobfuscate
Privacy
All processing happens in your browser. Your data is never uploaded to any server.
FAQ
Is obfuscation the same as encryption?
No. Obfuscation makes text harder to read but provides no real security. It can be reversed by anyone who knows the encoding. Use encryption for security.
What methods are available?
Hex escape (\x41), Unicode escape (\u0041), Base64, and HTML entities (A). Each can be reversed with the decode mode.
